All About DFTOK
Different from the Other Kids (DFTOK) is the project of Angela Tsounis, mother of a now adult daughter who was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder when she was seventeen. While advocating and seeking appropriate care for her daughter, Angela looked for parental help to help her adjust to the new challenges presented following the diagnosis. After finding none, and with her daughter stabilising, Angela decided to share her experiences in the hope that other parents would not feel the same isolation that she originally felt.
Different from the Other Kids: A Weekly Podcast for Parents of Challenging Children began the first season in October 2015 on iTunes and was picked up by other websites, such as Player.FM and Google Play shortly after. The DFTOK podcast reached “New and Noteworthy” status on iTunes during its initial launch, and continues today with approximately 2000 listeners a month by January 2017.

Different from the Other Kids: A Book of Interviews for Parents of Challenging Children launched November 20, 2015, in Oakville, Ontario and online through Amazon. The newly best-selling book ranked as an “Amazon #1 Best Seller” for a week following the book launch while reaching #1 in the Development, Adolescent Psychology and Child Psychology and Development categories in Canada, the United States and Australia.

Different from the Other Kids: Natural Alternatives Edition launched almost a year later on November 11, 2016 at the Oakville Naturopathic Wellness Centre for a second successful book launch. The Centre’s own Dr Jiwani, who was interviewed twice for the book, helped Angela and the DFTOK team welcome the public and media to a night full of fun, information, and food! With the help of the DFTOK community, the Natural Alternatives Edition ranked as an “Amazon #1 Best Seller” in the Herbal Remedies and Adolescent Psychology sections.

Finally, the third and final book in the series Different from the Other Kids: Law & Disorder Edition launched May 31, 2017, via Facebook Live! Angela and the rest of the DFTOK team went live throughout the day promoting the latest DFTOK book. Thanks to the support of our readers as we ranked #1 Best Selling status once again in the “Child Advocacy” and “Adolescent Psychology” categories on Amazon in Canada, the United States and Australia again.
